At a crossroads

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Last week I was let go by the UFC. I was sad to get the news but it was expected. I've always been proud to be a UFC fighter and they have been real good to me. I can't help but to feel a bit like I'm losing a family.
As for now, I'm more motivated than ever. I'm going to take a vacation for a week then get back to work. Already, there are a lot of offers for fights coming I'm. Some are exciting. Starting over doesn't sound so bad to me. Although my career is at a crossroads my story is only half written. I have a lot of fight left in me and I continue to improve with every fight. Anyway, I'm best when the chips are stacked against me and I will make it to the top. Thanks to all of my fans.

Keep on trucking Dean, I enjoyed following your career in UFC, and will continue to follow it wherever you land.

Casey June 29, 2010 at 6:32 PM

Hey Mr. Jardine!,

I'm really sorry about your release. It's not like you were like Chuck, and not even being competitive. Oh well, the past is the past and there is nothing we can do about it.

But you're right, a week to chill out and get back in the gym. Despite the decision not going your way, you looked really good against Hamil. Just keep working hard. I'm sure Team Jackson knows what the best move is from here.

You could always work to get back in the UFC, but I'd like to see you try your hand at Strikeforce. We all believe in you Keith!

Fight on!
Was annoyed to hear you were let go from the UFC, always found you to be one of the more exciting fighters to watch.

Please keep us posted on when you are fighting next!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 6:46 PM

Hey Jardine, if this whole ultimate fighting thing doesn't work out, I think you have a career in acting. You were great in Breaking Bad

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 6:46 PM

I'm sorry to hear that! I love your fighting style and I'll miss seeing you fight. Keep training and you will be back in no time!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 6:48 PM

I never really thought they'd let you go Keith, your matches were always too entertaining. Looking forward to your next fight.

justin,  June 29, 2010 at 6:51 PM

I'll be honest Keith, at first when I started becoming a fan of MMA in 2005/2006, I wasn't a fan of yours. However, after seeing you continuously fight the best in the game, and bringing it fight after fight, I really began to respect and admire your game. The sport needs more blue collar, stand up guys like you who bring it win or lose, as oppose to guys like tito who always has an excuse...I have no doubts you'll be back Keith, best of luck!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 6:53 PM

yea, sorry to hear about you being cut. but im sure youll be back at the top at some point in your fighting career, hell, you beat forrest and chuck, so im sure youll find success at another time. anyways, i wish you the best of luck BUD.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:18 PM

That is so bs they cut you. You have beaten Forrest, Chuck and Vera. You have taken on the best, often on short notice. Keep your head up, you still have a ton of fans and we still watch you wherever you fight.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:27 PM

You'll be back. You have too much heart and fan base. Keep your head up. Looking forward to your return.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:49 PM

Keith,
Whenever your name was on the card- i expected an exciting fight. I can't help to think that the UFC made a mistake by letting you go... prove to them that they made a mistake!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:50 PM

wow, i figured as much, but i think it sucks, any chance we'll see you in strike force? keep truckin man!

Stacy's Daily June 29, 2010 at 7:51 PM

Yo Dean,
Keep your head up man you will be back!!! Plus there are a lot heads at 205 for you to knock off elsewhere! God Bless

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:55 PM

i cant believe they released you, your name, hands and personality brings entertainment to the fans, i dont think dana realizes that your a major competitor and ticket drawer. i think he will have a quick change of heart in the mean time.
screw it, lets move up to heavy weight and challenge fedor!!!!!!!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:57 PM

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 7:59 PM

I'm honestly not even a fan of yours, but after your last fight I tweeted to dana white not to let you go because you always put on great fights. Keep at it and you'll be back in the UFC soon enough...

Keith im a big fan of your fights because you always bring it 100%. As for other options outside the UFC instead of jumping ship to strikeofrce who ive never liked id love to see you take a crack at the bellator season three lightheavyweight tourney. I know id be cheering for you

Gabz,  June 29, 2010 at 9:07 PM

We love you, Keith Jardine!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 9:24 PM

Bonnar and Danzig should go, before they even thought about u going!! That's BS

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 9:43 PM

So sorry, you are my favorite. Hope things work out for you. Id much rather see you then Bonnar and countless other guys. Dana may talk crap about SF, but if he keeps cuting guyslike u then SF may be better then UFC. I cant stand the crap he does any more. After him telling Tapout they can only sponser guys in the UFC. He makes me sick.Good Luck!!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 9:51 PM

Keith,
Sorry you been let go, but F em.... make your mark again elsewhere like m00sin! That is where the power is, where the power is, is the money and fame!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 10:17 PM

Keith-
You are one of my (2) favorite fighters. Keep fighting man! Everyone else is BORING, you always bring it and earn your money.

Mad Respect.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 10:36 PM

How do you go from being fight of the night to getting cut? The issue is you are on the brink of being a top contender so every fight is a difficult one and that makes it hard for you to go down and fight chumps in the UFC. A couple of big wins outside of the UFC will have Dana give you a spot. Stay motivated and fight as long as you are having fun because folks like me will follow you.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 10:42 PM

I think we all knew it was on the cards but you have such a big fanbase I am sure if you want to be in the ufc again you could, just need to string a few wins together elsewhere first.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 11:14 PM

Keith, I think a temporary stint in an organization like MFC would be great. They seem to have a lot of fighters go back and forth, so you still get some decent competition without going to a promotion that competes directly with the UFC.

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 11:15 PM

Give 'em hell Dean!!!!

Anonymous,  June 29, 2010 at 11:49 PM

GO VIKING WARRIOR GO TO WAR
PS: A PORTUGUESE FAN.

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 12:59 AM

What in the hell justifies them letting you go?!? I mean I am a big UFC fan and while I have always been neutral to you as a fighter, I have to admit you always made fights extremely tough for whomever you faced. If this decision came from Dana its bullshit because his best friend Chuck performed much worse in his past 5 fights. The UFC shouldn't be about just winning, its all for entertainment and you were one of the BEST at doing that. As a fan, I'd rather see a guy lose and "BRING IT!" then see someone win wit a mediocre pin em' to the ground strategy. It seems your head is still held high so just keep at it and you will be running the LHW division somewhere. The UFC will miss "Dean of Mean"

Johnathan Diggs June 30, 2010 at 2:33 AM

I never thought I would see this day. The Dean of Mean being cut from the UFC. I understand its a business, buts it feels like your being fired from your job, or evicted from your home without reason. You always bring it, you never put on a dull fight and fans including myself ALWAYS look forward to see you fight. I had you winning against Hamill. I just dont see how this makes any sense, it fucking pisses me off. Just keep training hard cause you aint done.

Enjoy your vacation and the ring/octagon will be waiting for you when you get back.

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 10:56 AM

I can't honestly say I'm your biggest fan Keith, but I do have to say that you always bring it. I'd rather watch you fight than a whole laundry list of UFC fighters; two of which are "Champions"! (Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva). I tend to find their fights a good time for a nap, but I'm always on the edge of my seat whenever you're beating some of my favorite fighters LOL! Anyway, keep your head up bro. You'll land somewhere and shake up the leaderboards wherever it is!

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 10:58 AM

Keith you are a cool guy but you can not lose that many in a row, most by KO. Keep your head up and hopefully we will see you back soon.

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 11:04 AM

Dean you are a real good fighter but u cant lose to guys u should have beat . so i think you were full of shit saying u dont like fighting a nobody like houston but yet you were a nobody to if it wasnt for the show so u lost me as a fan when u said . and im glad ur gone peace

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 11:17 AM

Keith by many of the comments before mine you can see that you are loved as a fighter! I have seriously enjoyed watching your fights and you have been a part of some of the most exciting bouts in recent memory! Not only will we see you soon in another organization its only a matter of time until you are back with the UFC.

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 11:47 AM

I've tweeted to Dana as well that this was a horrible decision. I can only think of a handful of fighters that bring it 110% every fight and the "Dean on Mean" always did. The outcome matters less than the effort, its what sells a fight (at least to me). Its like the UFC cutting Clay Guida for losing......

mills June 30, 2010 at 2:03 PM

what ever u decide to do next ill be there to support! you'll be a champ one day. keep ur head up keith.

Mike in Massachusetts,  June 30, 2010 at 2:55 PM

Hey, Keith, you'll bounce back! The UFC doesn't know what they're losing. You've never been in a boring fight, I love watching you and will watch you wherever you go. By the way, I had you winning the Hamil fight with no point deduction and coming to a draw with the point deduction. You got robbed! The refs are getting worse and worse in the UFC

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 4:05 PM

Bad move from UFC, the fights you lost were so close...are they going to cut Randy Couture as well??????

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 6:27 PM

Andrew K,  June 30, 2010 at 6:42 PM

Since I started watching UFC a couple of years ago, you have been my favorite fighter. I like that you are confident and not cocky like a lot of fighters are these days. You will always have my support wherever you go.

It out to be a UFC rule of thumb that fighters don't get cut for losing the "Fight of the Night."

Anonymous,  June 30, 2010 at 11:34 PM

Dnt know why u were released...it shouldnt matter how much u lose as long as ur competitive and put on exciting fights like u have ur whole career...I dnt see how they gave hamill the decision other than herb dean taking a point from u with no warning...cnt wait to see the dean of mean back in the ufc!!!!

Keith Jardine rules, end of story.

"It out to be a UFC rule of thumb that fighters don't get cut for losing the "Fight of the Night."

this is so true. why cut someone who just gave an awesome performance, and clearly would do again given the chance??

Anonymous,  July 1, 2010 at 10:04 AM

hey man. i like watching you fight and your entire team for that matter. sorry to see u go. i hope it works out wherever u go. to be honest i'm not as eager for u to go back to ufc because you never know when you could be cut. i'd much rather see u make a name for yourself wherever else u choose to go.

Anonymous,  July 1, 2010 at 10:38 AM

The key to winning the rest of your fights is gaining control of your mind...

Another key to winning...is relaxing your body.

And one last key is developing your jujitsu, punching and kicking power to new levels.

FIGHT!

Anonymous,  July 1, 2010 at 12:15 PM

Keith, I'll be the only honest one here to say it like it is, I enjoyed watching you get your ass beat down, you had to be brought back to reality. You have always come across as a cocky fighter, you showed many times that you did not have the respect for your opponents that you should have had. This what turned me against you, I can't stand fighters that think so much of themselves that they are to good to fight certain fighters, like when you fought Houston Alexander, you showed the man zero respect and you got beat down for it, the same goes for when you fought Mr. Silva, you actually thought you were the better fighter, you then got beat down again. Once you become a humble confident fighter, then you'll have my respect. Good luck to you in the future, im sure you'll do just fine.

I'm not your biggest fan and i fucking hate dana white, but i must admit this is the happiest i have felt towards the ufc in a long-long time.. good fucking riddance.. you got paid fuck all in your time at UFC and this also makes me feel amazing. Herb Dean handed you your demise.. now hopefully you fall into obscurity and open a beauty salon with james mcsweeney.

fuck you keith and from the bottom of my heart i hope you quit mma.

ignore the asshole above me.. i think a lot of people didn't like you because of your affiliation with rashad evans, this was my only qualm with you.

when he came into the octagon and tried taking on rampage mannn that made you look like a fucking dick.. ive realised this wasnt your fault.. but that was definatly the start of your downfall he made it look like you couldnt defend you own battles.. mann that pissed me off. fuck rashad evans, ill see you back in the ufc in a couple of years.. got luck on whatever you have planned for the meantime.. dont worry about anything.. the future is prosperous your still stupidly young for the ufc's standards.. we'll see you making appearances for years to come. good luck.. and when you see rashad know it was his fault cos he made you look like a fucking pussy.

Anonymous,  July 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Ever thought about switching camps? Although Jackson's camp is very highly regarded, it seems as though your style has been stifled there.

The Keith Jardine that I feel is the most successful is the aggressive, unorthodox, leg kicking wrecking machine. Seems like Jackson has been trying to turn you into someone methodical and technically superior to your opponents instead of embracing the MEAN.

Chute Boxe anyone???

Anonymous,  July 2, 2010 at 11:04 AM

Keith,
Although there is obvious negatives that surround being cut, there is a huge upside as well. When you go to another organization you will be the big dog and get the money that you deserve as a fighter. The UFC gave you no respect with your contract. In my opinion this is the best thing for your career. Go whoop some ass make good money then go back to the UFC with a higher price tag on you. Always supporting you wherever you fight and hope to train with you someday if it would ever be possible. Keep your head up buddy you'll be fine...Nightraincity412@yahoo.com

MaF,  July 2, 2010 at 11:10 AM

Keith, I think the UFC made a mistake. Everyone I know in MMA enjoys your fights..win..loose...whatever, you fight hard. When you go to another organization, we will watch you there as well. You have alot of fans, just because you are Keith. Continue to improve and fight hard.

MaF,  July 2, 2010 at 11:18 AM

Keith,

Can't believe some of the moronic comments posted here, but I guess that's to be expected with a rowdy crowd like this.

I have to admit that I'm truly shocked the UFC let you go. Your unorthodox striking style always made for some exciting fights and I made it a point to order any PPV UFC card you were on just because of that.

I hope to see you back in the UFC at some point, but if that doesn't happen I look forward to seeing you fight with another organization.

Stay mean!!!

About This Blog

I was born in Butte, Montana.
A proud town known for its hard nosed rough sort of people. From there, I moved to a small town in Central Oregon where I spent a number of years before moving to Southern California. This is where I went to Canoga Park High School and then LA pierce Junior College.

I spent my last two years of college football at a division II school in Las Vegas New Mexico called New Mexico Highlands University. I finished playing football there and then coached for a few years when I met a guy teaching mma at the local rec. center. I was sold right away and drove to Albuquerque to meet Greg Jackson, who was already well known in the area. I then decided to move to Albuquerque to train with him. That was in 2000 and I have been here every since.

I got my big break in 2005 when, after my training partner Diego Sanchez did so well on The Ultimate Fighter season 1 where I got the opportunity to be on the second season of the show. Although I didn't win, I learned a lot from both Rich Franklin and my training partners while at the same time developing lifelong friendships. The show was great for my career, and has given me the opportunity to become a full time fighter and to progress to where I am today.

I have had 11 fights now in the UFC and I am currently regarded as one of the best fighters in the world.
